Healing Trauma

Your past experiences, childhood trauma, old beliefs and emotions usually have a major impact on your current situation.

Most people with past trauma go through their lives living from day-to-day without considering what they have lost, or how much it has cost them. They carry with them core childhood wounds like abandonment, rejection, betrayal, injustice, and abuse.

Much trauma is unrecognised, such as that experienced because of regular negative criticism and put downs by a caregiver. This kind of emotional abuse can have as far-reaching effects on a child’s confidence and self-esteem as physical abuse.

The cost of carrying trauma may be experienced in terms of undealt with hurt and pain that affects our relationships, our health and wellbeing in the world. it may result in retreating from life and in lost time and opportunities. These core childhood wounds are likely to affect us throughout our adult life unless they are dealt with and healed.

Unreleased past traumas can also result in you experiencing many different symptoms; conditions like anxiety, depression, addictions; issues with sleep and weight; stress-related health disorders etc. Each of them is likely to be a sign of your trauma trying to get your attention. If you ignore it, the trauma gets louder and the symptoms more extreme.

Your past trauma may result in your wounded inner child adopting coping strategies to survive, to be safe, be seen, heard, and accepted. These may include the roles of people pleaser, of being a good girl or a doormat, of feeling not good enough or of over giving. It may also result in considerable lack of confidence in social situations.

Trauma does not go away with time or through changes to our external circumstances. However, when we pay attention and reach out to seek and to find healing, amazing things happen.

Trauma is usually fully resolved in my clients’ lives as we uncover and heal the underlying trauma in a gentle way that does not require you to relive your past experiences.
